Indoor Messy Play: In Mountmellick Library on Thursday 30th November from 10 a.m. till 12 for 0–4-year-olds and their parents/carers. Places are limited so please call 0578644572 to book your place.

 

Spikey Jar Art Group: The Gallery in Mountmellick is delighted to host for the month of December the Spikey Jar Art Group. Based in their studio in Timahoe these Laois based artists art inspired by their journeys in Ireland and are in a range of media. The exhibition will launch on Tuesday 5th December at 6 p.m.-all re welcome to attend.

Christmas events: Pop up parent and child Christmas craft tables on Saturday 2nd and 16th December form 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until supplies run out!

Christmas Morning for all our borrowers: Wednesday 6th Dec 11am. Come recommend a book for Christmas or hear other reader’s recommendations as part of our Ireland Reads initiative. Enjoy tea/coffee mince pies will be served. Fáilte roimh chách.

Christmas Cookie Decorating will take place on Tuesday 12th Dec from 3pm while stocks last!

Christmas story time on request, just ring our Christmas bell and library staff will be ready for a Christmas Story! Keep an eye on the Laois Libraries Facebook page for other events.

As part of our Family Time at your library we will be hosting Ready, Steady, Play session for walkers and toddlers (and their parent/guardian) on Wednesday 20th Dec at 10am. Contact the library to book your place 0578644572 or mountmellicklibrary@laoiscoco.ie.

Heritage Illuminations project continues in the library each Thursday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. All welcome to come and create wonderful Christmas motifs. This project will be launched on Dec 21st in Mountmellick Community School.

Shared Reading: Shared reading groups bring people together to talk, laugh and share. Just grab a cuppa and enjoy listening to a story or poem-no pressure to read or talk. Starting Wednesday 8th November 11 a.m. Call 0578644572!

Our Book clubs are back for all ages! Baby Book Club is back on Tuesdays at 10.30 a.m. for 0–3-year-olds and their carers. There are a few places in our  adult book clubs which meets once a month! Call 057 8644572 to book a place or for more information.

Lego Free Play:  On Saturday mornings in Mountmellick Library from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. No need to book just drop in to meet and create together!

Campaign against Period Poverty: As part of the campaign against period poverty free sanitary products will be available in the bathrooms of Mountmellick, Portlaoise and Abbeyleix libraries.

Home Energy Kits: The Home Energy Saving Kit contains six practical tools to help you save energy at home and can help identify common problems such as lack of insulation, poor ventilation and the appliances in the home that might be driving up electricity bills. You can borrow the kit for a duration of 2 weeks in order to conduct a mini home energy audit. Age Friendly Laois: Free to collect at Mountmellick Library:

  • I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) cards to be carried on the person, in a wallet or purse to provide valuable information to emergency first responders.

Sensory Services:

Sensory  Toy Resource Collection: This service is for parents of children with additional needs who live in Co. Laois. The toys are designed to support the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills and communication skills.  To register for the service, you must have a referral letter from O.T., G.M.P., physio or other professional. For further details call 0578644572 or call into Mountmellick Library to pick up a booklet.

Sensory Room in Mountmellick Library: Following registration, this service is for the use of children and adults with additional needs with their parent/carer present. Following registration with a supply letter the room can be booked for 30 minute sessions. For further information contact Mountmellick Library at 0578644572.

Tovertafel Magic Table: The table has interactive light projection games specially designed for those with dementia, cognitive challenges, autism and learning difficulties. The projections respond to the touch of the players. Booking is essential for 30-minute slots.
