Well being and Mental Health workshops: Mountmellick Library in conjunction with Midlands Louth Meath CHO will be hosting a series of workshops in May which are free and open to anyone (aged 18+) with an interest in mental health and well-being.

  • Tuesday 3rd May from 9:30am to 11:30am –        What Is Recovery in Mental Health – We will look at Recovery from Mental Health challenges, What is Recovery Education, and our service available in Laois & Offaly


  • Tuesday 10th May from 9:30am to 11:30am –     Let’s Talk CHIME – The word chime is an acronym for connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment.​ Participants will: Understand the concept of CHIME in Personal Recovery; Examine the components of CHIME in supporting our wellbeing; and What recovery looks like in our own wellbeing and that of others


  • Tuesday 17th May from 9:30am to 11:30am –     Exploring Self Care – The aim of this session is to explore ways to nurture ourselves and steps to strengthen our mind, body, spirit and create connections. Tips and Steps for self-care and wellbeing; Recognise that self-care is continuous throughout our lives due to changing circumstance beyond our control; Understand that self-care begins with being aware and listening to the body.


  • Tuesday 31st May from 9:30am to 11:30am –      Unwrapping Resilience – The aim of this session is to discuss and understand Resilience and to Explore Who and What can help us build resilience; Explore the building blocks of resilience.

Bealtaine events at Mountmellick Library:

Bealtaine Poetry Circle: Join us, Laois Libraries to read, share and listen to poetry that celebrates aging and challenges stereotypes of older persons. Join from the comfort of your own home over Zoom. We welcome readers and listeners equally! Fire Safety in the Home: Laois Libraries have a series of Fire Safety Talks taking place throughout our branches in May and June. Running as part of the Bealtaine Festival, this fire Safety information talk will be presented by Laois Fire Services. This event in Mountmellick Library takes place on Friday 13th May at 11.00 a.m.

Digital learning for kids: If interested in getting your child introduced to basic IT skills then contact Mountmellick Library on 0578644572 or email to register your interest. The classes will be aimed at 8-12 year olds.

Lego: Lego Free Play on Saturday mornings in Mountmellick Library from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Drop in and create together!

Age Friendly Library survey: Laois Libraries are looking for those aged 55 and over to help them improve their library services. Share your opinions and suggestions by filling out a short questionnaire at your local library during the months of April and May. Share with your families, friends and community groups. Please help us to spread the word so we can hear from as many older persons as possible.

Short and Sweet Book Club: 

Want to kick start your reading habit this year or in a reading rut? Then the Short and Sweet Book Club could be for you! We meet once a month to discuss two/three short stories. This month’s author is John McGahern. If interested email for further details or call 0578644572.

Sensory Resource Collection: This service is for parents of children with additional needs who live in Co. Laois. The toys are designed to support the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills and communication skills.  To register for the service, you must have a referral letter from O.T., G.M.P., physio or other professional. Sensory Room in Mountmellick Library: Following registration, this service is for the use of children and adults with additional needs with their parent/carer present. Tovertafel Magic Table: The table has interactive light projection games specially designed for those with dementia, cognitive challenges, autism and learning difficulties. The projections respond to the touch of the players. Booking is essential for 30-minute slots.
