Easter Events at Mountmellick Library:

Tuesday 26th March 3 p.m. Family story time for 0-7 year olds and accompanying adults.

Wednesday 27th March: Peter Rabbit treasure trail from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thursday 28th March: Pop up Parent and child Easter craft table from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until stock lasts.

Friday 5th April: From 12- 1 p.m. song and story time with Sarah Sparkles. Booking essential. Suitable for 4-7 year olds and accompanying adults.

Saturday 6th April: LEGO free play from 11- 1p.m. Just drop in no need to book!

Library Closures: Please note Mountmellick Library will close from 5.30 p.m. on Thursday 28th March and re-open on Tuesday 2nd April at 10.00 a.m.

History talk: Join us on Tuesday 9th April at 7 p.m. for a talk on Irish Immigrants in Michigan by  Pat Commins and Elizabeth Rice-accounts of people who left Ireland in the 1800s.

The Gallery in Mountmellick Library is delighted to host for the month of April ‘Meanderings of a Colourful Mind’, an exhibition of paintings by Olivia O’Keeffe, Martina Furlong and Marja van Kampen. The exhibition will launch on Tuesday 2nd April at 6 pm. Guestspeaker is Dr. Arthur Broomfield, Poet Laureat for Mountmellick. All are welcome.

Irish Conversation Circle: Every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Mountmellick Library. Light refreshments and all levels are welcome.

Are you up for a ten-minute drama/ play challenge-write, direct and produce your own script! Mountmellick Arts Collective are inviting submissions for their upcoming fringe weekend. They meet every Thursday around 11 a.m. in Mountmellick Library. Keep an eye out for upcoming news of the weekend which will include workshops! Email!

Crochet and Knitting Group: Meeting every Thursday in Mountmellick Library at 11 a.m. to create and chat together.

Book Clubs: We have books clubs for all ages-baby book club for 0–3-year-olds, children’s book clubs for 4-6,7-9,10-12-year-olds and two adult book clubs in Mountmellick Library. If interested, call 0578644572 for more information. Please note there will be no baby book club over the Easter Holidays. It will resume on Tuesday 16th April at 10.30 a.m.

Shared Reading: Would you like to take some time out, connect with others and explore some great poems and stories. Then, join us in Mountmellick Library for some shared reading sessions where a staff member will read a story or poem. We then talk together about what we think and feel about it. It’s also fine to just come and listen.  Refreshments provided. All are welcome- on Wednesday  27th March at 11 a.m. so why not drop in!

Lego Free Play: On Saturday mornings in Mountmellick Library from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. No need to book just drop in to meet and create together!

The Gallery in Mountmellick library is delighted to host for the month of March the artist, Oksana Rohovska’s exhibition: “The Edge of the Heavenly Realms through the eyes of my soul”. Oksana is a talented Ukrainian artist and studied at the Lviv National Academy of Arts in her native Western Ukraine. Her pieces are in wool, oil, acrylic oil and pastels and she is inspired and attracted by nature, especially flowers. This is the last week of this exhibition-all are welcome!

Campaign against Period Poverty: As part of the campaign against period poverty free sanitary products will be available in the bathrooms of Mountmellick, Portlaoise and Abbeyleix libraries.

Home Energy Kits: The Home Energy Saving Kit contains six practical tools to help you save energy at home and can help identify common problems such as lack of insulation, poor ventilation and the appliances in the home that might be driving up electricity bills. You can borrow the kit for a duration of 2 weeks in order to conduct a mini home energy audit. If you wish to be added to the waiting list for this item call 0578644572 or email

Sensory Services:

Sensory  Toy Resource Collection: This service is for parents of children with additional needs who live in Co. Laois. The toys are designed to support the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills and communication skills.  To register for the service, you must have a referral letter from O.T., G.M.P., physio or other professional. Sensory Room in Mountmellick Library: Following registration, this service is for the use of children and adults with additional needs with their parent/carer present. Following registration with a supply letter the room can be booked for 30 minute sessions. For further information contact Mountmellick Library at 0578644572.

Tovertafel Magic Table: The table has interactive light projection games specially designed for those with dementia, cognitive challenges, autism and learning difficulties. The projections respond to the touch of the players. Booking is essential for 30-minute slots.
