Deirdre Dunne Art Exhibition: The Gallery in Mountmellick Library is delighted to host Deirdre Dunne’s art exhibition for the month of September. She is an Irish born Artist who studied at Crawford College of Art in Cork Ireland.  Since her studies she has bicycled through Asia, Europe, Africa, The Middle East and Central America, as well as working for 5 years as a Tour Guide in Australia and Africa. Her subject matter varies from everyday kitchen scenes to camels in the Gobi desert. The exhibition will be launched on Tuesday 6th September at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.


Book Clubs:

Our book clubs are returning in September so why not get your reading groove back on?!

The Adult Book Club in Mountmellick Library will be meeting back on Friday 23rd September at 11a.m. September’s choice is Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier based on the life of fossil hunter Mary Anning-a fascinating read!

The Short and Sweet Book club will meet on the last Wednesday of the month in Mountmellick library starting on Wednesday 28th September at 11 a.m. Our September choice is Claire Keegan’s remarkable Foster. First 5 Little Library: Do you have a child starting primary school in September? Then drop into your local library to collect your “My Little Library Book Bag” which contains three books on starting school, making friends and being comfortable to be yourself to help children to navigate starting school.

Sensory Services:

Sensory  Toy Resource Collection: This service is for parents of children with additional needs who live in Co. Laois. The toys are designed to support the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills and communication skills.  To register for the service, you must have a referral letter from O.T., G.M.P., physio or other professional. Sensory Room in Mountmellick Library: Following registration, this service is for the use of children and adults with additional needs with their parent/carer present. Following registration with a supply letter the room can be booked for 30 minute sessions. For further information contact Mountmellick Library at 0578644572.

Tovertafel Magic Table: The table has interactive light projection games specially designed for those with dementia, cognitive challenges, autism and learning difficulties. The projections respond to the touch of the players. Booking is essential for 30-minute slots.

Sensory Garden:

Our sensory garden in Mountmellick Library is blooming again with plants and flowers to indulge all the senses!
