 In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice of the decision to temporarily close Tirhogar Dr, Portarlington, Co. Laois, for 10 metres either side of UBC115 Irish Rail Bridge. This road closure is from the 11th August to the 25th August 2021, from 20:00pm to 08.00am.

The closure is necessary to facilitate bridge repair and painting works.

Diversions will be clearly signposted. A map indicating the routes to be closed and the alternative routes will be available for inspection at www.laois.ie and Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.

Repair and replacement of the stone pitched flooring of the western arch of the Inch Bridge on L7950 across the Stradbally River, outside Stradbally, Co Laois.

Pursuant to section 177AE of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and the requirements of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended), notice is hereby given that Laois County Council proposes to make an application for approval to an Bord Pleanála for the following development:

A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed development.

The Board may, in relation to an application for approval under section 177AE, of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, may give approval to the application for development with or without conditions or may refuse the application for development.

Repair and Replacement of the stone pitched flooring of the Western Arch of the Inch Bridge.

The Base of the Western Arch and cutwater will also be repointed. The Bridge spans over the Stradbally River which is a tributary of the River Barrow

The Stradbally River is a tributary of the River Barrow. Both the Stradbally and Barrow rivers are designated as a European site; River Barrow and River Nore Special Area of Conservation (Site Code 002162).

L-2680-0 at Raheen, Mountrath, Portlaoise, Co. Laois – Proposed traffic calming measures.

In accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, Laois County Council is proposing to introduce traffic calming measures along a section of the L2680-0 at Raheen, Mountrath, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. The scheme includes the following elements to improve the safety of pedestrians and road users;

  • Introduction of a new pedestrian Zebra crossing, installation of traffic calming ramps, construction of new footpath and reduction of the road carriage width in vicinity of Tobar an Léinn National School, Raheen.

Public Display

Drawings showing the proposed works may be inspected, by appointment only, during normal opening hours for a one month period from Tuesday 1st June 2021 to Thursday 1st July 2021 at the following locations:

Laois County Council wishes to advise that due to the ongoing roadworks on the N80 Stradballly Road, there may be some temporary disruption experienced in the vicinity of St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery until the 28th of May 2021. Vehicular access to the cemetery will be maintained for funerals but there may be interim interruptions at other times. Pedestrian access will also be maintained at all times.

Laois County Council advises that, on the 15th April, 2021, works will commence on the N80 Ballymacken Road Reconstruction Scheme.  The Scheme involves the reconstruction and resurfacing of approximately 4km of the N80 National Secondary Road, from St. Peter & Paul’s Church, Portlaoise Town to the Ballymacken Industrial Estate. The project is funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

 

Kilsaran Road Surfacing and Contracting are the main contractors and the works will take approximately 15 weeks to complete. The works will be undertaken in phases and carried out between the hours of 7:00am – 7.00pm.

 

Various temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place for the duration of the works with a particular focus on local, one-way traffic systems. In general outbound vehicular traffic will continue to use the N80 whereas inbound traffic will be diverted via the Portlaoise Southern Circular Road and other suitable routes. As works progress interim traffic management plans will be available on the Laois County Council website. Alternative routes will be fully sign posted.

 

Local access will be retained but there may be interim interruptions.

 

Pedestrians will not be subject to diversions.

M7/M8 Motorway – Proposed Roadworks / Lane Restrictions

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice of its decision to implement slip lane (merge and diverge ramps) and roundabout closures on the M7 motorway at junction 18 (Portlaoise), Junction 21 (Borris in Ossory) and the M8 Motorway at Junction 3 (Rathdowney), during the period 22nd March 2021 to 30th September 2021 to facilitate roundabout repair works. A Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.

The works at the roundabout will involve slip lane motorway closures, with traffic directed along the diversion routes. Local traffic will be facilitated under a stop/go system at each roundabout. The works locations are as follows:

  • Junction 18, M7, Westbound Roundabout
  • Junction 21, M7, Eastbound and Westbound Roundabouts
  • Junction 3, M8, Southbound Roundabout

Laois County Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for sponsorship of the maintenance of a number of landscaped roundabouts located in Graiguecullen, Co Laois

Sponsorship of the roundabout will entitle the “Selected Sponsor” to have advertising rights on the roundabout. The roundabout offers an excellent promotional opportunity for business organisations.

ROADWORKS INFORMATION

Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.

The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.

“Public Road” as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority”.

Roads are classified as follows:-

  • National Primary – major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
  • Regional Roads – are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
  • Local Roads – includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.
