Electric Picnic

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its decision to close the R427 from Money Cross to Stradbally from 2.00pm on Thursday 29th August to 2.00 p.m. on Monday 2nd September, 2019. This closure is necessary to accommodate the Electric Picnic Concert at Stradbally Hall. The following alternative routes are available.

Traffic travelling from Ballyroan to Money Cross along the R427.
Turn left at Money Cross onto the R426. Follow this road past Sheffield Cross. Continue on this road until you reach the roundabout with the N80 at Broomfield Cross Roads. Turn right at the roundabout onto the N80. Continue travelling east along this road until you reach Stradbally.
Alternatively, turn right at Money Cross and follow R426 into Timahoe. Take the first left in Timahoe and follow the local primary road (L-3838) into Stradbally.

Turn right at the cross roads in Timahoe up the school road. Drive in a north easterly direction along the local primary road (L-3838) until you reach Stradbally.
Local Access will be maintained.

New Road (R426) – Portlaoise – Temporary Road Closure Extended

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice of it’s decision to close the following roads at the following location:

From a point: R426/L -63106-0 (junction at Liam Fitzpatricks Tyres)
To a point: R426 /R-941-2 (roundabout with Lismaird Business Park)

M7 Motorway – Proposed Roadworks / Lane Restrictions

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it has decided to place lane restrictions on the M7 motorway to through traffic between Junction 21 on the M7 and Junction 19 of the M7, during the period 3rd July 2019 to 30th August 2019 to facilitate mainline pavement repair works. A Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.

The works will be undertaken utilising a phased approach and diversions for wide loads, with diverted wide load traffic directed to follow signage along an alternative route. Single lane running will be provided and the motorway will remain open at all time to all vehicles, except for wide loads.

Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it proposes to provide single lane running on the M7 motorway to through traffic between Junction 21 of the M7 and Junction 19 on the M7, on both the M7 westbound carriageway and the M7 eastbound carriageway during this period.

Under Section 10 of the Road Works Speed Limit Road Traffic Act 2004, it is the intention of Laois County Council to impose a temporary Road Works Speed Limit from 3rd July to end of August from 120kph to 60kph at the above motorway location. The road works speed limit is required to facilitate the above works.

 

Notification for the Temporary Road Closure – M7

Kildare County Council (on behalf of Laois County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland) gives notice, in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, that it will close:

  • The M7 eastbound (overnight closures) between Junction 16 (Portlaoise) and Junction 13 (Kildare).
  • The M7 Junction 15 eastbound merge slip road (overnight closures)
  • The M7 Junction 14 eastbound merge slip road (overnight closures)

Dates of the closure:  Monday, 8 July  –  Wednesday, 28 August 2019

Hours of closure:

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 8.00 p.m. – 6.00 a.m.

Fridays and Saturdays: 9.00 p.m. – 8.00 a.m.

Sundays: 10.00 p.m. – 6.00 a.m.

These closures are required to facilitate the resurfacing of the pavement.

M7 Diversion route:

Divert from the M7 at Junction 16 (Portlaoise). Take the second exit from the roundabout towards the R445. At the next roundabout, take the second exit from the roundabout onto the R445 towards Monasterevin. Continue on the R445 for approximately 25.5km until the junction with the R415. At the traffic lights junction, traffic should take the right turn and proceed along the R415 towards M7, Junction 13. Traffic to proceed through the Kildare Village roundabout and then take the first exit on the roundabout, joining the M7 motorway using the eastbound merge slip ramp.

Merge slip road diversion route:

Traffic, at either Junction 15 or 14, intending to travel east on the M7, should follow the diversion signage to the R445, and then proceed towards Junction 13, as described in the above M7 diversion route.

Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the council and An Garda Síochána.  Local and emergency access will be allowed at all times.

 

Notification for the Temporary Road Closure at Ballyfin – L-1077

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its decision to temporarily close the L-1077 road, Ballyfin, Co. Laois from 8th July, 2019 to 16th August, 2019.

This 24 hr closure is necessary to accommodate laying of new water main. Local access will be maintained where possible. Road diversions and signage will be in place during this time.

SPONSORSHIP OF ROUNDABOUTS

Laois County Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for sponsorship of the maintenance of a number of landscaped roundabouts located in Graiguecullen, Co Laois

Sponsorship of the roundabout will entitle the “Selected Sponsor” to have advertising rights on the roundabout. The roundabout offers an excellent promotional opportunity for business organisations.

Extinguishment of a Public Right of Way

In accordance with the provisions of Section 73 of the Roads Act 1993, Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to extinguish the public right of way over a section of walkway at Rathevan, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

Maps showing the section of walkway over which it is proposed to extinguish the public right of way may be inspected at the offices of Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise during normal opening hours from Tuesday 9th October 2018 to Wednesday 7th November 2018.

ROADWORKS INFORMATION

Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.

The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.

“Public Road” as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority”.

Roads are classified as follows:-

  • National Primary – major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
  • Regional Roads – are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
  • Local Roads – includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.
