The following road closure has been extended to the 24/09/21, as further works are needed to alleviate flooding in the area.

 

SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993

(Road Regulations 1994)

 In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to temporarily close the Ballymorris Road, L-3157-22, from the Railway Bridge to Canal Road/ Ballymorris Road Crossroads, from the 19th January to the 16th February 2021.

The closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of a traffic light, footpath and public lighting.

Diversions will be clearly signposted. A map indicating the routes to be closed and the alternative routes will be available for inspection at www.laois.ie and Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.

NOTICE OF DECISION

L-1656 Tonduff, Abbeyleix from the 19th April 2021 to the 7th May 2021

And the

L-6717 Tonduff, Abbeyleix from the 4th May 2021 to the 21st May 2021

These will be 24 hour road closures and are necessary for the laying of a new watermain along these sections of road.

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice of its decision to temporarily close the N80 near Maidenhead, Arles, Co. Laois, between its junction with the L-7879 at Maidenhead to its junction with the L-79791 at Ballynagall, to facilitate remedial works to the road surface.

These works are scheduled to take place from Monday 29th March 2021 to Friday 2nd April 2021. The road will be closed 07:00-19:00 on these days.

The diversion route northbound will be from the N80 roundabout at Graiguecullen onto the R430 through Killeshin and Newtown and onto the N78 towards Athy.

The diversion southbound will be from the N78/N80 junction at Simmons Cross along the N78 towards Newtown, onto the R430 through Killeshin and on to the N80 at Graiguecullen.

Access for residents will be accommodated where possible.  Diversions will be clearly signposted.  A map of the diversion route is available for inspection at www.laois.ie and Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.

The roadworks on the N80  between Portlaoise and Stradbally will now commence on Wednesday 24th March to Friday 26th March 2021 and not from the 22nd March as previously advertised.

The road will be closed between the 22nd March 2021 to the 26th March 2021 from 7.00am to 7.00pm. The closure is necessary to facilitate resurfacing works on the N80.

M7/M8 Motorway – Proposed Roadworks / Lane Restrictions

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice of its decision to implement slip lane (merge and diverge ramps) and roundabout closures on the M7 motorway at junction 18 (Portlaoise), Junction 21 (Borris in Ossory) and the M8 Motorway at Junction 3 (Rathdowney), during the period 22nd March 2021 to 30th September 2021 to facilitate roundabout repair works. A Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.

The works at the roundabout will involve slip lane motorway closures, with traffic directed along the diversion routes. Local traffic will be facilitated under a stop/go system at each roundabout. The works locations are as follows:

  • Junction 18, M7, Westbound Roundabout
  • Junction 21, M7, Eastbound and Westbound Roundabouts
  • Junction 3, M8, Southbound Roundabout

L27762 at Pass, Cullenagh Portlaoise, Co. Laois – Proposed one-way traffic system.

In accordance with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, Laois County Council is proposing to introduce a one-way traffic system along a section of the L27762 at Pass, Cullenagh, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. The L27762 road is locally known as the Chaff Road and adjacent to the Rockview Walkways. The scheme includes for the following elements to improve the safety of road users;

  • Introduction of a one-way system along the L27762 Chaff Road from the junction with the R425 to a point 430m to the South west of the junction.

Public Display

Drawings showing the proposed works may be inspected, by appointment only, during normal opening hours for a four week period from Tuesday 23rd February 2021 to Tuesday 23rd March 2021 at the following locations:

SPONSORSHIP OF ROUNDABOUTS

Laois County Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for sponsorship of the maintenance of a number of landscaped roundabouts located in Graiguecullen, Co Laois

Sponsorship of the roundabout will entitle the “Selected Sponsor” to have advertising rights on the roundabout. The roundabout offers an excellent promotional opportunity for business organisations.

ROADWORKS INFORMATION

Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.

The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.

“Public Road” as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority”.

Roads are classified as follows:-

  • National Primary – major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
  • Regional Roads – are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
  • Local Roads – includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.
