ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION.

SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROADS – EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURES

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to close sections of road on the N80 in County Laois are outlined below:
The Closures are effective at various times during the period 24th July 2018 to 24th August 2018 to facilitate necessary surfacing works. A Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to temporarily close the N80 at the following locations:

1. N80 Ballickmoyler to Maidenhead, Co. Laois – 24th July to 14th August
The diversion route is via R430 and the N78.
These works are scheduled to take place on various days within these dates on weekdays 07:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday.

2. N80 at Grange Upper, Co. Laois – 7th August to 21st August
Works to take place on various days within these dates.
The diversion route is via R427 & R426.
These works are scheduled to take place on various days within these dates on weekdays 07:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday.

3. N80 Laught or Commons, Co. Laois – 15th August to 24th August
Works to take place on various days within these dates.
The diversion route is via R423 & R420.
These works are scheduled to take place on various days within these dates on weekdays 07:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday.

Access for residents will be accommodated where possible. Diversions will be clearly signposted. Maps of the diversion routes are available for inspection below.

SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993 (Road Regulations 1994) NOTICE OF INTENTION

M7/M8 Motorway – Roadworks / Lane Restrictions

M7/M8 Motorway – Proposed Roadworks / Lane Restrictions
In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby give notice of its decision to place lane restrictions on the M8 motorway to through traffic between Junction 4 on the M8 and Junction 19 of the M7, for a period between 1st July 2018 to end September 2018 to facilitate mainline pavement repair works. A Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.
The works will be undertaken utilising a phased approach and diversions for wide loads, with diverted wide load traffic directed to follow signage along an alternative route. Single lane running will be provided and the motorway will remain open at all time to all vehicles, except for wide loads.
Laois County Council give notice of its decision to provide single lane running on the M8 motorway to through traffic between Junction 4 of the M8 and Junction 19 on the M7, on both the M8 northbound carriageway and the M8 southbound carriageway during this period.
In addition, during this period there will also be traffic restrictions, including intermittent ramp closures and stop-and-go systems, in place at Junction 3 of the M8 and Junction 18 of the M7 to facilitate roadworks at slip-roads, roundabouts and regional roads passing through these junctions.
Under Section 10 of the Road Works Speed Limit Road Traffic Act 2004, it is the intention of Laois County Council to impose a temporary Road Works Speed Limit for a period between 1st July- 30th September from 120kph to 60kph at the above motorway location. The road works speed limit is required to facilitate the above works.

SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993
(Road Regulations 1994)

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to temporarily close the road at Luggacurran, specifically the L-3839 from the T Junction at N80/L-3839 to the crossroads at L-7835/L-3838.

These works are scheduled to take place from Monday, 9th July 2018 to 30th November 2018. 7am to 7pm

Access for residents will be accommodated where possible. Diversions will be clearly signposted. A map of the diversion route is available below for inspection.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed road closure should do so in writing to the Administrative Officer, Roads Section, Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise not later than 4.00 pm on 26th June 2018.

SECTION 75, ROADS ACT 1993 (Road Regulations 1994)  NOTICE OF INTENTION

 In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to temporarily close Main Street, Portlaoise on Friday 22nd June 2018 from 12 noon. The street will remain closed until 07.00 a.m. on Monday 25th June, 2018. A section of Church Avenue will also be closed Saturday 23rd June & Sunday 24th June from 10am until approx. 7pm each day. These closures are necessary to accommodate The Old Fort Festival. Road diversions and signage will be in place during this time.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed road closure should do so in writing to the Administrative Officer, Roads Section, Laois County Council, not later than 4.00 pm on Wednesday, 6th June, 2018.

 

ROADWORKS INFORMATION

Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.

The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.

“Public Road” as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority”.

Roads are classified as follows:-

  • National Primary – major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
  • Regional Roads – are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
  • Local Roads – includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.

ROADS PROGRAMME 2018

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Laois County Council under Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993, intends to close the following roads to public traffic to allow for strengthening and/or surface dressing.
