 In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice of its intention and decision to temporarily close Main Street, Portlaoise from 6pm to midnight from Monday 15th November 2021 to Thursday 18th November 2021.

The closure is necessary to facilitate installation of Christmas lights.

A traffic management plan will be in place and diversions will be clearly signposted. A map indicating the routes to be closed and the alternative routes will be available for inspection at www.laois.ie and Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.

In accordance with the provisions of Section 75 of the above Act and Article 12 of the Roads Regulations, 1994, Laois County Council hereby serves notice that it is intended to temporarily close Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise, from the N80 (Green Road) to the R-945, from 07.00 on the 25/10/2021 to 19:00 on the 30/10/2021. This is a 24-hour road closure.

This temporary road closure is for the completion of a new water and sewer connection, as well as a foul sewer extension.

Diversions will be clearly signposted. A map indicating the routes to be closed and the alternative routes will be available for inspection at www.laois.ie and Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.

  • N80 JFL Avenue – From Stradbally Rd at the Church to the N77 Abbeyleix Rd
  • Summerhill – From N80 Stradbally Rd to the Portlaoise Southern Circular Rd
  • Portlaoise Southern Circular Rd – Full Length
  • Timahoe Rd – From N80 Roundabout to Portlaoise Southern Circular Rd
  • N77 Abbeyleix Rd – From Garda Station Roundabout to Market Square Roundabout

The closure is necessary to facilitate a National Bike Week event.

Re: M7 Closure Junction 21 – 22, Saturday 4th Sept 2021

All,
Please note that subject to final confirmation on the night of Saturday 04th Sept 2021 the M7 Motorway will both closed in both directions between Junctions 21 (Borris in Ossory) and Junction 22 (Roscrea) between the hours of 8pm – 6am.

Westbound traffic will be diverted from M7 Junction 21 – R435 – R445 – N62 to rejoin the M7 at Junction 22.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted from M7 Junction 22 – N62 – R445 – R435 – to rejoin the M7 at Junction 21.

These diversion routes will be fully signed.

The M7 motorway will be fully reopened before 6am on Sunday 5th Sept 2021.
This temporary arrangement is necessary in order to facilitate essential works for the ESB network.

Repair and replacement of the stone pitched flooring of the western arch of the Inch Bridge on L7950 across the Stradbally River, outside Stradbally, Co Laois.

Pursuant to section 177AE of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and the requirements of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended), notice is hereby given that Laois County Council proposes to make an application for approval to an Bord Pleanála for the following development:

A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed development.

The Board may, in relation to an application for approval under section 177AE, of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, may give approval to the application for development with or without conditions or may refuse the application for development.

Removal of vegetated sand and gravel deposits from the Stradbally river at Ballymanus Bridge outside Stradbally, Co Laois.

Pursuant to section 177AE of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and the requirements of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended), notice is hereby given that Laois County Council proposes to make an application for approval to an Bord Pleanála for the following development:

The Stradbally River is a tributary of the River Barrow. Both the Stradbally and Barrow rivers are designated as a European site; River Barrow and River Nore Special Area of Conservation (Site Code 002162).

The Plans and Particulars and NIS will be available for inspection free of charge, or may be purchased on payment of a small fee (which fee shall  not exceed the reasonable cost of making such a copy) during normal office 9.30 – 5.00pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), except where stated otherwise below, during the period from 2nd June 2021 to 16th July 2021 inclusive, at the following locations;

  2. the implications of the proposed development for proper planning and sustainable development in the area in which it is proposed to situate the proposed development; and
  • the likely significant effects of the proposed development on a European Site,If carried out.

ROADWORKS INFORMATION

Our overall objective is to construct, maintain and improve public roads and motorways to cater for the ever increasing volume of traffic and to provide the necessary infrastructure to support economic and social development.

The other principal activity is the implementation of traffic management schemes, cycle and pedestrian facilities, road safety measures including the promotion of road safety awareness and the operation of the school warden service.

“Public Road” as defined by Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 is any road over which a public right of way exists and the responsibility for its maintenance rests with the roads authority”.

Roads are classified as follows:-

  • National Primary – major roads linking cities, principal ports, airports and large towns and declared to be a national road by the Minister for Environment and Local Government under the Roads Act, 1993.
  • Regional Roads – are declared to be regional roads by the Minister for Environment and Local Government and are important feeder routes to the national roads
  • Local Roads – includes all urban and rural other than national or regional roads.
