Want to make healthy changes this year? Talk from safefood in partnership with Libraries Ireland

Why not sign up to our free online on zoom talk with experts Dr Colman Noctor and Dr Aileen McGloin about how a small daily change can start families on the way to a healthier life. Our experts will talk about making changes that work for your family and give practical advice on encouraging children to accept healthier food habits. This event is taking place on Tuesday, 7th February at 7.00pm -8.00pm . Laois Jobs Fair

Come meet the staff at the Portlaoise Library Europe Direct stand at the Laois Jobs Fair, which takes place in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise on Monday, 20th February 2023 from 12pm – 7pm.

All are welcome to attend our talk on ‘Careers in the European Union’ by Eimear Ní Bhroin, Language Affairs Officer at European Commission at 5.00pm. There will also be a number of talks taking place throughout the day, including CV workshops, third -level opportunities, apprenticeships and traineeships with the LOETB and EU careers.  #LaoisJobsFair is an event organised by the Laois Chamber of Commerce.

Radioactive Readers Book Club

Why not join us for monthly chats and fun activities.  Chat about books you like to read. The book club meet monthly on Thursday. Recommended reading for 6- 9 years. Next meeting Thursday, 26th January at 4pm.

Young Adult Online Book Club

Do you like the idea of a young adult book club? A book club is a great way of discussing books and different genre’s and to share your passion for books and reading.  Laois Libraries are hosting a new young adult online book club through Zoom TBC.. Chapter One Book Club

Do you like the idea of a morning book club? Portlaoise Library are hosting a new morning adult book club. This is a great way to get together as a group and talk about your shared passion for books and reading. The book club will meet on the last Friday of each month. This will take place on Friday 27th January at 11am.

Portlaoise Library Adult Evening Book Club

Join us for a group discussion on books that you have read and would like to read. The group meet each month on Wednesdays. Next meeting takes place on 1st February at 6.30pm.

Baby Book Club

Baby book club uses songs, stories, books and rhymes to build a foundation to literacy in your baby and toddler through sound awareness for ages 0-3years, fortnightly. Next meeting takes place on Thursday 2nd February at 10.30am.

Literature at Eleven

Do you love the social aspect of book clubs, but don’t want to commit to reading a whole book? Would you like to make new friends in your community? Portlaoise Library’s Literature at Eleven, Featuring poetry and prose readings by staff members, with tea, coffee provided and a chat about literature, life and lots more. Next meeting takes place on Thursday 9th February at 11am.

Lego Club

Lego free play will take place on Saturday 11th February from 11.00am- 1.00pm. All are welcome

Genealogy Club Join us at Portlaoise Library for our new genealogy club- chat with family enthusiasts and learn from their experiences your unique family history stories. Next meeting will be held on Thursday, 16th February at 7pm.

Knitting Circle The Knitting Circle, Meet, mingle and trade yarns with local knitters! Come to a Knitters Meetup and have fun comparing patterns, sharing techniques and tips on stitches the group meet weekly on Wednesday mornings from 11am-1pm.

Ciorcal Comhrá Whether you are fluent or have a cúpla focal, you are invited to join this Irish Conversation group. The group will meet for a chat so come along and Join us for our weekly chat in Irish – Irish conversation. Wednesdays at 5.30pm-6.30pm.
