Heritage Plan

Laois Heritage Plan 2021 – 2026

A new Heritage Plan for Laois which will cover the period 2021 to 2026 is currently in preparation.

Each Laois Heritage Plan is a working document, which outlines the actions that will be taken by the Heritage Office, in partnership with the Heritage Forum, in conserving and raising awareness of built, natural and cultural heritage in Laois, over a five-year period.

The Laois Heritage Forum is a partnership body with representation from all groups with an interest in the heritage of County Laois. The Forum is involved in the writing  of each plan and also in its day to day implementation.

The Heritage Council supports the writing of each Laois Heritage Plan and provides annual funding for its implementation. We are very grateful for their assistance.

Input from young people

Can you help us with the new Laois Heritage Plan? Are you under 18? Interested in wildlife? Archaeology? Traditional music or dance? Have your say on the new Heritage Plan for Laois!

We’d love to include artwork from young people across Laois in the new plan. This can be a drawing, a painting, a photo, a poem or any artwork you like, that shows something you love about any part of the heritage of Laois. Whether it’s your local birds or other wildlife, a castle, traditional dance, history, mountain landscapes – show us what you value! We will include the best artworks in the new published plan, and we have two prizes of Family Heritage Cards for the best entries.

Send your entries to heritage@laoiscoco.ie.
