CHRISTMAS PARKING ARRANGEMENTS IN LAOIS

 

Parking Arrangements for Christmas Period 2022

In support of ‘’shopping local’’ in the lead-in to Christmas, no parking charges will apply to Laois County Council operated public parking areas in Portlaoise, Portarlington and Mountmellick on the following days;

  • Saturday   3rd December 2022
  • Saturday 10th December 2022
  • Saturday 17th December 2022
  • Saturday 24th December 2022

This support relates to parking charges only.  Parking time limits (2 hours in short term car parking zones) will remain and will be enforced to ensure turnover of spaces.

Enforcement regarding other parking offences such as unauthorised parking on footpaths and/or unauthorised parking in loading/disabled bays, parking on double yellow lines etc. will continue as normal, further to the provisions of Road Traffic Regulations.

INTRODUCTION OF PARKING MEASURES- MOUNTRATH

In accordance with Part VI (Section 35) of the Road Traffic Act 1994 and Section 37 (2)(a) and (2)(b) – S.I. No 182/1997 – Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997, notice is hereby given that Laois County Council proposes to introduce time limited parking measures in Mountrath Town Centre.

Parking Measures Proposed
Proposed time limited parking comprising 2-hour maximum time limited parking between the hours of 08.30hrs and 17.30hrs, Monday to Saturday inclusive. Signage to be erected to give effect to these measures.

In exercising its powers under the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997, Road Authorities can define parking areas and erect signage in relation to time limited parking. Notwithstanding this, Laois County Council wishes to seek the views of interested parties with a view to advising the commencement or otherwise of these proposals.

First Forty Five Minutes Free Parking in Portlaoise

Paid Parking operates in Portlaoise from 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Saturday.

The FIRST  45 minutes of parking only if free.  This free parking can only be availed of once in a 24 hour period.

If your visit is for longer than 45 minutes, you are required to purchase a parking disc for a maximum period of 2 hours.    All day parking is available in our Car Parks located at The Plaza, County Hall and Tower Hill.

Fines will be issued for illegal parking on footpaths, double yellow lines, in Disabled Bays (without a valid permit), in loading bays etc

Traffic and Parking around Laois

Currently we have Bye-Laws for Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Portarlington.   These Bye-Laws are implemented by Traffic Wardens employed by Laois County Council.

The Laois Storm Water Management Policy elaborates on Council requirements relating to surface water drainage systems for developments seeking planning permission.

Casual Trading in Laois

There is casual trading in Portlaoise every Friday from 9.00 -3.00 in Peppers Lane, off Lyster Square. Please note that Parking is not permitted in that market area between the hours of 8.30am and 3.30pm on Fridays.  Penalties will be incurred for vehicles parked in this area during the time stated above. A map of   outlines the area involved.
