In this special series, Dr Martin Keaveney will explore the ways creative writing can enhance well-being. We will do specially designed exercises to create stories, poems, short plays and screenplays, with a view toward the way this practice can enhance lifestyle while also providing valuable transferable skills.

Recommended audience: Parents or guardians of pre-teen children, Adults interested in a general overview of online safety, Youth Workers, Foster Carers

This session is aimed at those with, or working with children from 8-13 years old which offers a general overview to raise awareness of the main factors to consider around social media, gaming and the online world. Our aim is not to scare, but rather to raise awareness of what children are doing online and offer practical advice and resources to help participants deepen their knowledge. Areas of focus are popular apps & protecting privacy, areas of risk, digital wellbeing & critical thinking and useful resources.

Parents often cite challenging behaviour as one of the most stressful aspects of parenting. From tantrums for the little ones to negotiation with older children, managing children’s behaviour in a positive way is very important in terms of supporting their social and emotional development. In this Webinar, Mary supports parents in framing behaviour management in a positive way, giving practical advice on best to support positive behaviour using connection to help us parent with patience.

Dr Mary O’Kane is a Lecturer in Psychology, Early Childhood Studies and Education. Mary started working in the media in 2015 with a Monthly Parenting Slot on the Anton Savage Show on Today FM. She continued working with Anton and his team for two years answering parent queries and giving advice on how to support children’s social and emotional development. She continues to work with Today FM, now on the Alison Curtis Weekend Morning show. Mary is also a regular contributor on Ireland AM discussing a broad range of parenting and childhood issues while responding to viewers parenting queries.
