Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability

The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability is available to assist in the carrying out of works that are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a person with a disability who is a member of the household. Maximum grant available : €30,000. The maximum gross household income threshold is €60,000.

Type of works allowable under the scheme include;

  • Access ramps
  • Stair-lifts
  • Downstairs toilet facilities
  • Accessible showers
  • Adaptations to facilitate wheelchair access
  • Extensions  (Only approved when all less costly and “fit for purpose” alternatives have been considered and eliminated)

Housing Aid for Older People

The Scheme of Housing Aid for Older People is available to assist older people over the age of 66, living in poor housing conditions to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out to prolong the life of the house for their lifetime.

Maximum Grant Available: €8,000.

The maximum gross household income threshold is €60,000.


Mobility Aids Grant

The Mobility Aids Housing Grant Scheme is available to fast track grant aid to cover a basic suite of works to address mobility problems, primarily, but not exclusively, associated with ageing, in order that recipients are not subject to delays in accessing works.

Maximum Grant  Available : €6,000.

The following outlines the type of works allowable under the scheme;

  • Grab-rails
  • Access ramps
  • Level access showers
  • Stair-lifts

Expressions of Interest for Occupational Therapist Services and Qualified Building Contractors

Laois County Council is seeking expressions of interest from Occupational Therapists to provide assessments for applications relating to the Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability and Mobility Aids Grant.

All interested Occupational Therapists should be a member of the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland, have the relevant insurances and be tax compliant.  All interested parties will be included on a list which will be made available publicly and made available to the applicants.  Please note that any works contract will be directly between the applicant and the Occupational Therapist and not with Laois County Council.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM – OT

Expressions of Interest forms should be submitted to the Director of Services Housing, Laois County Council, Arás an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co Laois in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Expressions of Interest –Occupational Therapist” by 16:00 hrs on Thursday 30th April, 2020.

Laois County Council is also seeking expressions of interest from Qualified Building Contractors to carry out building / construction works under the  Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability, Mobility Aids Grant and Housing Aid for Older People Grant.

All interested Qualified Building Contractors should be qualified, experienced and competent to undertake such works, should have the relevant insurances, be Health & Safety compliant and be Tax compliant.  All interested parties will be included on a list which will be made available publicly and made available to the applicants.  Please note that any works contract will be directly between the applicant and the Qualified Building Contractor and not with Laois County Council.
