Climate Action in Schools

Biodiversity in Schools

At the Laois Education Centre on the Block Road in Portlaoise, we have a biodiversity demonstration garden. This garden highlights different types of habitats that can be replicated in schools, serving as a valuable hands-on teaching resource for educators.

Green-Schools

Green-Schools is Ireland's leading environmental education and award programme, working with primary and secondary schools across the country.

Resource Kit for Schools

The resource kit is a series of four lesson plans with an associated video series. The lesson plans are suitable for primary schools (2nd to 6th class).

Climate Action in Laois

Climate Action Plan

The Laois Climate Action Plan sets out the responsibilities of Laois County Council in meeting its own climate targets and ambitions and the broader role it plays across the County.

Midlands Energy Agency

The Midlands Energy Agency (MEA) is a cooperative partnership between five Midland local authorities of Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon to manage and reduce their energy consumption and GHG emissions in accordance with national targets. Laois County Council is the lead authority.

Portlaoise Low Carbon Town

Portlaoise Low Carbon Town is working to build a greener, sustainable future our county town. This initiative will result in less traffic and congestion, reduced emissions, more bike-friendly roads and green spaces, and revitalized buildings in our town centre. Together, we can create a healthier and greener place to live for generations to come.

Community Climate Action

Community Climate Action Fund

The Community Climate Action Fund is a new fund to support small and large, rural and urban communities to take climate action at a local level. In conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Laois County Council will support communities to take climate action.

The Laois Federation of Tidy Towns is an organisation committed to the preservation and enhancement of our local environment. Established in 1998, the Federation currently comprises 38 dedicated community groups across the county.
