Community Involvement Scheme

Laois County Council may support local residents and landowners to restore regional and local roads which serve their properties. Residents and landowners must pay a contribution to the restoration works.

What is the scheme?

The Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) is also known as the Community Involvement Roadworks Scheme and is funded by the Department of Transport.

This scheme encourages a joint approach between the local authority and groups of residents and landowners for the restoration of public roads.

Generally, the roads are classified as local tertiary roads that are:

  • lightly trafficked
  • single lane or
  • dead-end roads

As well as being dead ends they may also link two local primary roads or two local secondary roads.

The Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) is subject to funding from the Department of Transport. Conditions of the scheme may change every year in line with the grant conditions set out by the Department of Transport.

What works are eligible?

  • Providing hard stands at field entrances
  • Removal of grass verges or banks
  • Site preparation works including the removal of grass from the centre of the road (where required)
  • Opening, deepening and generally maintaining drains alongside roadway and adjoining land including the laying of drainage pipes, where appropriate
