Responsibilities of Laois County Council's Veterinary Section
Laois County Council's Veterinary Section is responsible for making sure that all animals slaughtered for food in local abattoirs (slaughterhouses) are inspected before and after they are killed. This is required by the Abattoirs Act, 1988.
The Veterinary Section also works to protect food safety and follows the rules set out in a service agreement between the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and Laois County Council.
