What is Laois County Council responsible for?
Laois County Council is responsible for the provision and maintenance of public lighting in the county. This includes:
- streetlights
- lights in housing estates taken in charge
- roads
- parks and
- laneways
If the housing estate has not been taken in-charge by Laois County Council, then the developer of the estate is responsible for the maintenance of the public lighting

Laois County Council currently has a stock of approximately 9,500 lights and this is likely to increase in the future due to the taking in charge of housing estates, construction of new housing schemes, new road schemes and urban renewal.
