Casual Trading Enforcement

Laois County Council may take action against casual traders operating without a licence or in breach of their licence.

Under the Casual Trading Act 1995 (Section 14) it is an offence to trade without a Casual Trade Licence.  Anyone wishing to engage in Casual Trading within the administrative area of Laois County Council must apply to the council for a Casual Trading Licence.

Breach of the legislation is subject to prosecution summarily with a fine of up to €1,270 on summary conviction or a fine up to €12,700 or imprisonment for up to six months or both on conviction on indictment.
