Planning Bond Refund

Laois County Council may refund or return unused planning bonds where completed works have been carried out to the required standard.

Security bonds

The purpose of the bond is to ensure satisfactory completion and/or reinstatement of any services/infrastructure currently in the charge of Laois County Council, including

  • roads
  • open spaces
  • car parking spaces
  • public lighting
  • sewers and drains

irrespective of the development being taken in charge.

Release or refund of bond

When permission is granted for a development, Laois County Council may attach a condition requiring the lodgement of a cash sum or an insurance company bond which will be called upon to carry out any works required in the event of a developer failing to complete the development to the required standard.

It is the policy of the council to ensure that all bonds remain in place until the development is completed to the satisfaction of the planning authority as per the condition of planning.

When applying to release a bond, the developer is required to complete a release of bond application.
