Science Week 2024 brought excitement to all of our libraries, engaging hundreds of students with a wide range of events.
Luke and his Deadly Dinosaurs visited Mountrath, Stradbally, and Mountmellick Libraries, where children from local schools explored prehistoric life and enjoyed hugs from Reggie, a friendly T-Rex.
Portarlington Library teamed up with Anyone4Science to deliver hands-on workshops on electricity and offered students the unique experience of sampling reconstituted astronaut meals. Mountmellick and Portlaoise Libraries celebrated superhero science with Dr. Barry Fitzgerald, who revealed the secrets behind superhuman abilities.
The Mad Professor thrilled children in Rathdowney and Mountrath Libraries with his wild and exciting experiments. Portlaoise Library amazed over 200 students with the Exploration Dome Planetarium, an immersive 360° journey through the universe, and hosted the Bohemian Strings String Quartet, who blended music and the science of sound with a performance ranging from Bach to Metallica.
Abbeyleix and Durrow Libraries welcomed Joanna Donnelly from Met Éireann, who inspired children with engaging weather science experiments.
The week was a fantastic celebration of learning, curiosity, and fun. Thank you to all the schools, students, and facilitators who made it all possible. And a big thank you to Creative Ireland for supporting these events.
