Laois leads the way on Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) Broadband coverage

The Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr. Padraig Fleming welcomed the latest Quarterly Key Data report from the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) which identified Laois as the county with the highest level of fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband coverage at 89%.

FTTP is ultra high-speed broadband which is connected directly to people’s homes or business premises via fibre optic cables and now accounts for over 49% of all active fixed broadband lines in the country.

The report shows that 60% of active broadband lines in Ireland have speeds greater than 500Mbps (Megabits per second).

In noting the report, Cllr. Fleming acknowledged the opportunities that this presents for the County and the people of Laois, further strengthening the position of the County as a great place to live, work and do business.

Broadband officer with Laois County Council, Antoinette Brennan, acknowledged the work done by the broadband providers and National Broadband Ireland in rolling out fibre connectivity across Laois.
