Laois Libraries are delighted to announce the return of the annual Battle of Wits TY Schools Quiz once again. Five secondary schools in Laois took part in the first round of quizzes throughout the month of October. Transition Year students, along with their teachers, visited their nearest library and teams of 4 took part in the challenge to answer questions over 10 topical rounds delivered by our library staff.
The winning teams each won National Book Tokens and the top 3 teams from each school will go forward to the Laois County Final, which will be held in Portlaoise Library on the 14th November. The first place team members will each win a special Battle of Wits glass trophy, and the second and third place teams will each get medals. The top 2 teams from the Laois County Final will go forward to the Regional Final, which will be held in Athlone in early December.
Laois Libraries have collaborated with our colleagues in Offaly, Longford and Westmeath Libraries to deliver the Battle of Wits schools quiz across the 4 counties this year. The top 2 teams from each county will battle it out in Athlone for the perpetual trophy. No team from Laois has won the final quiz yet, but we are hopeful that 2024 will be our year! Many thanks to all the schools who participated this year and we wish all the finalists the best of luck in the next rounds.
