Public libraries may lend sensory toys and games such as balance boards, writing aids, fidget mats and soothing toys to children with learning difficulties or special needs to support the development of motor, play and life skills.
Laois Libraries offers a Sensory Toy Collection available to assist children and adults with additional needs.
Based in Portlaoise, Portarlington, Mountmellick and Rathdowney libraries, this collection can be accessed free of charge to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in County Laois.

The collection was chosen by staff of Laois County Library Service with advice from professionals working in the community. The toys are designed to support the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, communication skills and visual perception skills.
