Irish public libraries operate a shared resources system. This means that library members can reserve items not available in their local branch but available in another public library in the Republic of Ireland.
The national library catalogue may be searched to see what items are available through the network of Irish public libraries, and reservations may be placed online or in-branch.
A waiting list operates for titles in high-demand, and items are held for 10 days at the branch library selected for pick-up. Library members can choose to be notified by text or email when the item is available for pick-up at their selected branch.
