Irish Language Initiatives

Public libraries provide online language learning resources and eBooks in Irish. They also run children's events and activities through Irish to support and promote the Irish language.

Transparent Language

Laois Library members can use the free Transparent Language programme to assist them in learning Irish. Transparent Language is a complete language-learning system with courses and lessons designed to build listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Children’s picture books and stories are available through Irish on LOTE4Kids

Irish language stock is also available in eBook and eAudiobook format through Borrowbox.

Ciorcal Comhrá

Ciorcal Comhra groups meet regularly in several Laois branch libraries including Portlaoise, Mountmellick and Durrow – contact the libraries directly for more details.  

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge runs every year between 1st March - 17th March, with many events running in library branches to celebrate the Irish language.
