Healthy Ireland at Your Library Programme

Public libraries hold resource collections, run workshops and classes and provide information on health related matters to improve health and well being in communities as part of the Healthy Ireland at Your Library Programme.

Library Healthy Ireland

Healthy Ireland is a government-led initiative aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of everyone living in Ireland.   Laois Library Service is part of a national initiative funded by Healthy Ireland. This programme ‘Healthy Ireland at your Library’ has established libraries as a valuable source of health information, with a focus on: 

  • Healthy childhood 
  • Healthy eating and active living 
  • Positive ageing 
  • Tobacco 
  • Alcohol 
  • Mental health 

What resources and services are available at my local library?

Healthy Ireland at Your Library offers the following resources and services to library users in every branch in the country. 

Book stock 

A comprehensive collection of books on health and wellbeing are available in all public libraries. 

Online resources 

New ebooks, eaudiobooks and emagazines will be accessible in every library and by remote access through Borrowbox 

Programmes and events 

Laois Libraries host talks, discussions and workshops relating to various health and wellbeing topics throughout the year.
