Approved Housing Bodies Support

Laois County Council helps Approved Housing Bodies to manage, buy, build or lease properties for social housing.

What is an Approved Housing Body?

Approved Housing Bodies (AHB’s) are independent, not-for-profit organisations.

Laois County Council work closely with multiple AHB’s to provide rentable homes at an affordable rate. Together we are providing homes for Social Housing Applicants in Laois.

Can I to be housed by an AHB?

To be housed by an AHB you must be on the Local Authorities Social Housing List. In some cases, AHB’s provide housing for people with a specific need i.e. older people, homeless people and people with a disability.

The Approved Housing Bodies Regulatory Authority (AHBRA) was established in 2021.  Since 1st January 2022 AHB’s must be registered with this regulatory authority.

The Rental Tenancy Board (RTB) also have a role in regulating AHB’s. The RTB ensures the right of the AHB and the Tenant is protected.
