Disabled Persons Grant Scheme

Laois County Council can carry out extensions or adaptations to local authority houses such as grab rails, access ramps, wet rooms or downstairs bedrooms for older tenants or tenants with a disability.

What is the disabled persons grant scheme?

The Disabled Persons’ Grant Scheme is for existing social housing.  Funds are provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to the Council to carry out adaptations and extensions necessary to meet the needs of older people or people with a disability living in these homes applies to works.   

What works are covered under the scheme?

Works may involve minor adaptations such as stair-lifts, grabs -rails, showers, wet-rooms, ramps etc. It also provides funding for more major adaptations such as extensions (in the case of overcrowding), or the installation of a downstairs bedroom or bathroom.
