Voids Management

Laois County Council manage and repair vacant properties before reletting them to prospective tenants.

General

Local authorities oversee and repair empty properties before renting them out again.

What is a void?

A void is any property that is untenanted for a period of time.  This includes:

  • Properties are returned to the Council when tenancies end.
  • Returned properties are fully assessed, and any needed repairs are done by the Council.

After repairs, the houses are made available for rent again.

The Council aims to reoccupy vacant units as quickly as possible, depending on the needed repairs.

The average relet times and costs are published by the National Oversight and Audit Committee annually.
