How do I register a change of engine for a vehicle?
If you replace the engine of a vehicle (or if incorrect engine details are recorded), it must be declared to your local Motor Tax Office by providing the following:
- Completed Declaration Form RF111.
- Section 5 of the RF111 must be completed and stamped by a main motor dealer, confirming they fitted/inspected the engine.
- In addition, the same main dealer must submit a letter on their headed paper signed by a representative of the garage confirming their title and stating the following:
- the registration number
- the replaced engine number
- if the replaced engine was fitted or inspected by the dealer
- the fuel type
- cubic capacity of the engine - The original Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) must be surrendered.
- Photo ID of the vehicle owner (driving licence or passport accepted)
- The applicant should present in person and sign their application in the presence of Motor Tax staff.
If all is in order, the engine details will be amended on the system and a revised Vehicle Registration Certificate will be ordered for the customer.
