Fire Safety and Prevention Initiatives

Laois County Council run public awareness campaigns on the use of smoke alarms, preparing escape route plans and the safe use of electrical equipment to prevent fires.

What is our aim?

The underpinning principle of Laois County Fire and Rescue Service Community Fire Safety activities is to work towards reducing the number of fires, reducing injury and death from fires, together with targeting Community Fire Safety work at those most at risk from fire.  Based on this principle it is Laois County Fire and Rescue Service Community Fire Safety policy to:

  1. Provide general fire safety education in the community, in addition to targeting older people, those living in remote rural areas (particularly in the south of the county), together with high risk individuals with known elevated risk factors,
  2. Improve overall domestic smoke alarm coverage in the County.
  3. Reduce the number of tertiary incidents the fire service is called to.

In carrying out this work, we aim to take account of national guidance and international good practice, while also considering local needs, local resources available and special circumstances.
