Comhairle na nÓg Support

Laois County Council coordinate youth councils which give young people under the age of 18 the chance to get involved in the development of policy and local services and discuss issues that affect them such as homelessness, mental health, physical health, cyber health and bullying.

Laois Comhairle na nÓg strives to represent young people in Laois and aims to make their voices heard, in a real way among the adult decision makers in our county, allowing the future generation to help to make our county a better place to live, work and visit.

Hub na nÓg

Hub na nÓg is a national centre of excellence and coordination.

It supports government departments, state agencies and non-government organisations to give children and young people a voice in decision-making on issues that affect their lives, with a particular focus on the seldom-heard.

In the first national strategy on Children and Young People’s Participation in Decision Making (2015 – 2020), the DCEDIY committed to the establishment of a national hub to support the implementation of the strategy.

Laois Offaly Children & Young People's Services Committee (CYPSC)

The Laois Offaly Children & Young People's Services Committee held its first meeting on April 5th 2017. The committee has developed emerging priorities, as a starting point in the committees planning process, which is available here. The committee is made up from partners across the state and voluntary sector.

World of Work Programme

This programme provides 2nd year students with an opportunity to meet employees from a local company in order to learn about the World of Work. It facilitates conversations and insights to the many roles in the workplace. This inspires and encourages young minds to stay in education, make informed career choices and improves their confidence and self-esteem.

The World of Work website gives more information on the programme.
