Temporary Road Closure – Main Street Portlaoise: Notice of Decision

ROADS ACT, 1993

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PUBLIC ROADS

In accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993 and Section 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its decision to temporarily close the following road for the period and the reasons specified below:-

Road Subject of Proposed Closure: Main Street, Portlaoise (from the junction with Railway Street to the intersection with Church Avenue).


Period/Time of Proposed Closure: 
Monday to Sunday inclusive from 11.00hrs to 17.30hrs commencing on Thursday 2nd July 2020 and concluding on Sunday 30th August 2020.


Reason for Proposed Closure: 
To support adherence to public health guidelines, to support the measures outlined in the Roadmap for the Reopening of Society and Business, to support the actions of the County Laois Business Recovery Group and to enable Main Street, Portlaoise to be a Covid Compliant Street.


Alternative Routes: 
Via Church Street, Railway Street, Tower Hill and Church Avenue.

Please note that, during the temporary closure the existing one way vehicular system on Railway Street (Tower Hill to Main Street) will be reversed (i.e. Main Street to Tower Hill).
