Portfolio Preparation Course with artist Mary Burke

The Arts Office Laois County Council are delighted to offer a wonderful opportunity to young people to work with one of Irelands most critically acclaimed artists, Mary Burke. The course runs from Mon 22nd to Fri 26th July in Portlaoise and it is designed to help students prepare a portfolio for submission for Art and Design courses at 3rd level colleges. The week will also benefit students preparing for the Leaving Certificate Art Coursework by introducing them to research and drawing skills that could be useful when preparing their course workbook in school next year.  Through drawing, mixed media and colour studies students will be shown how to structure a comprehensive portfolio

Mary Burke has worked most recently in Laois on the highly successful  “Townscape” art project at the Laois Arthouse in Stradbally.  Mary studied Fine Art at NCAD and graduated with an honours BA (1982).  She has exhibited extensively both in Ireland and abroad and she has been awarded residencies at the Leighton Artists Colony at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and a United States Information Agency fellowship to work at the Vermont Studio Center, USA. She has received a number of awards including two Arts Council bursaries, a bursary from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (Montreal), a Golden Fleece Merit Award from the Lillias Mitchell Trust and two Professional Development grants from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
