|In Ireland, all land is owned by somebody and you use that land with the goodwill of the owner and not as a statutory right. 🤝 This includes our state lands and nature reserves.
Rural landowners have a long tradition of providing reasonable access for people to enjoy countryside pursuits such as hill walking, fishing, rock climbing and other recreational uses. Most owners do not object to recreational users crossing their land, but appreciate being asked. It all comes down to respect. This respect is based on trust like any relationship. It’s like a piece of elastic, if you pull it too far it won’t go back to the way it was before.
