Summer Stars National Reading Adventure
Summer Stars is the public library national summer reading programme for children that takes place each year during the summer in public libraries and online throughout the country. Our goal, as always, is to promote every child’s right to read and to invite all children throughout the country to join the adventure and to enjoy the fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the summer. It is for children up to 12 years and ABSOLUTELY FREE!
All you have to do is read 8 library books before 31st August. Register at your local library from 12th June.
When you register for Summer Stars you get a reading card, Laois Library Service activities booklet and a Summer Stars drawstring bag. When you read four books you earn a bookmark. Everyone who completes all 8 books gets a Summer Stars pencil and certificate.
Super Star Reading Challenge
If you can read more than 8 books ask the library for an insert for your Reading card. If you earn 8 more stamps (read 16 books altogether) you will be entered in a draw a BRILLIANT BICYCLE (similar to photo) which is being kindly sponsored by Halfords in Portlaoise
Golden Ticket Family Challenge
Reading together is a great way to pass on both the skills and the habit of reading. It is also a fun way to spend some time together. Register for the Family Challenge in the library and read together for 8 hours. Get the library to stamp you ‘Golden Ticket’ for each hour. Families who return a full ticket by 31st August will go into a draw for a family ticket to Tayto Park!
An unexpected adventure: short story competition
