LEGO Animation

This is a award winning joint venture by Abbeyleix & Durrow Libraries. During the course of the year both libraries will be running LEGO Animation classes for ages 10 and up. This is aimed at anyone between the ages of 10-18.

The aim is let then become creators and not just consumers of media, to use their smartphone, tablet & laptop constructively. To tell their story, whatever it may be.

So like any film project, we need writers, voice actors, artists, designers and LEGO builders. This is not just for lovers of LEGO.

So if you think you have someone who might be interested in this project and would like  to take on one of these roles, please contact us at

Past Events

Below is a sample of what our artists got up to at Caroline Keane’s Watercolour Workshop at Abbeyleix Library during the Bealtaine Festival.

With 67 different entries, over 70 competitors and a massive turnout on the day, we can safely say it was a massive event.

The quality of entries was such that I did not envy the judges task. Despite that, they did a great job in selecting our winners and Abbeyleix Library would like to thank Jessica and Faolán for all their hard work.

We would also like to thank all our master builders for their hard work and quality builds. The ingenuity and creativity on display was staggering and the stories to go with the sets were also brilliant.

Below is just a sample of builds that were on display, to see the rest please check out our Facebook page and help us select the winner of the Online Favourite Prize.

Laois Geology & Minecraft Rocks

For National Heritage we had Michele Castiaux from the Irish Geological Association presented a fun and informative workshop on geology and Irish rocks. We also talked about the popular game Minecraft and the rocks used in that.

We had a great time and would recommend people to check out Michele’s website
