Refuse Disposal at Kyletalesha Landfill

Householders may use Kyletalesha landfill through our keyfob system.  To gain entry to the landfill site, you must use our ‘keyfob’ system.  The purpose of the keyfob is to encourage waste reduction and recycling as the less your waste weighs, the less you pay.

Purchase a Keyfob

Initially, to purchase a keyfob at our Cash Office located in Áras an Chontae (County Hall in Portlaoise), you are required to present 2 forms of identification (a utility bill and a photo ID).  The Cash Office is open Monday – Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The keyfob credit system works similar to a mobile phone top up system and the minimum credit purchase that can be made is €15.  You can top up your keyfob in a number of ways including (but you will  need 2 forms of ID to top up your keyfob account):

If you lose your keyfob, a replacement keyfob will cost €20.

Kyletalesha Opening Hours

  • Monday – Friday: 8am to 3.30pm
  • Saturday: 8am to 1pm
  • Sundays/Bank/Public Holidays: Closed

Minimum Charge

Every time you visit, a minimum charge of €15 (up to 40kgs) is payable when you are disposing of waste at Kyletalesha Landfill.

Dry recyclables can be deposited at Portlaoise Recycling Centre, which is located on the same site (i.e. you do not need a keyfob to gain access to the recycling centre).  Full details of the Recycling Centre can be found here. The cost is €4 (exact change required) per visit. Electrical appliances (WEEE goods) are accepted free of charge.

Refuse collection for householders in Co. Laois is privatised.  Details of permitted collectors are available from the Environment Section on (057)-8674322.  Remember, it is extremely important to use a waste collector that has an authorised waste collection permit (otherwise if your refuse is given to a ‘man and a van’, who illegally dumps your refuse, you are still legally responsible for it).
