PRESS RELEASE – Contract signing
N80 Maidenhead Realignment Scheme
The Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Councillor William Aird, and the Chief Executive of Laois County Council, Mr. John Mulholland, signed the Contract for the N80 Maidenhead Realignment Scheme this afternoon in Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co. Laois in the presence of Councillor Aidan Mullins of the Portarlington-Graiguecullen Municipial District.
The successful tenderer is Clonmel Enterprises Limited based in Naas, Co. Kildare.
The N80 Maidenhead Realignment Scheme involves the upgrade of the N80 National Secondary Road known locally as the “Arles Bends” from the townland of Ballynagall to the townland of Castletown, traversing the townland of Maidenhead, Coolanowle and Kilcruise. These bends are situated approximately 1km north of Arles and approximately 2km south of Junction of the N78 & N80.
Works will commence immediately with an estimated (18) month construction period. Laois County Council will be supervising and administering the works with project management assistance being provided by the Kildare National Roads Office.
Mr. Adrian Barrett, Senior Engineer in the Roads and Transportation Department stated
“The signing of the Contract for the N80 Maidenhead Realignment Scheme this afternoon is a significant milestone in the delivery of another critical piece of infrastructure for County Laois. I acknowledge the support of Transport Infrastructure Ireland who are funding this Project.”

An Bord Pleanála has approved, subject to conditions, the above development under section 177AE of the Planning and Development Act 2000 – 2015.
A copy of An Bord Pleanála’s decision and the Natura Impact Statement for the development as approved is available for inspection or purchase for a fee of €15 (fifteen euro) between the hours of 9.30am and 4.00pm on Mondays to Fridays (bank holidays excluded) at the following location:
